About Us

The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 1505 is a workers’ union with six units that each operate under a separate collective agreement. A collective agreement is a legal, written agreement that outlines how an employer and union are to conduct business together on behalf of employees belonging to the union. Business includes benefits, vacations, working conditions, grievances and many other areas of business. There are approximately 1500 workers belonging to CUPE 1505.

CUPE 1505’s Units include:

  • Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo
  • Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo Transit
  • Regional Recreation Corporation
  • Fort McMurray Airport Authority
  • Wood Buffalo Housing
  • Wood Buffalo Housing Rotary House

CUPE 1505 is operated by paid members and volunteer executive members, all of whom are voted in by the membership. Full time paid members are the President and Vice President. Our volunteer executive include Unit Chairs, Financial Officer, Recording Officer, Communications Officer, Membership Officer, Chief Shop Steward and Trustees.  Separately funded by CUPE National is a National Representative, who is hired (not voted in) and provides services to the executive.
